John Sheetz is the broker / owner of 1889 Brokers. John has nearly four decades of experience in the corporate world and real estate / business brokerage. His latest corporate experience was serving as a real estate and development executive for a multibillion-dollar corporation where he managed all aspects of a $4B real estate portfolio including purchase and sale, leasing, asset management, and land / project development.
John founded his own boutique firm in Virginia where he served as Principal Broker and worked with clients for the purchase and sale of real estate and businesses in the Mid-Atlantic region. His specialty areas in real estate include commercial and farms / estates as well as complex deals. He has represented individuals, family offices / trusts, corporate clients, and others in dozens of transactions throughout the United States. John had the opportunity to work with luxury property developers and a private equity club on properties in the Caribbean and throughout the world, and he performed pro bono real estate work for an international non-profit organization.
John has extensive experience in construction and development, having served as Director of Business Development for a national design / build firm where he was the company's first business development professional to earn the Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC) from the Center for Health Design.
In addition to his real estate brokerage, John has brokered the sale of businesses while representing both corporate and individual clients. His own experience as an entrepreneur includes several start-ups, private equity funding, turn-arounds, and exits. That experience has helped provide him with the expertise to advise others on the purchase and sale of businesses.
On a personal note, after having lived in several states throughout the U.S. Southeast and West and following the suggestion of a Polson, Montana cousin, John settled in the Paradise Valley of Montana which he has made his home and where he enjoys fishing, hunting, hiking, cross-country skiing and generally being outdoors. All of the photos on this website have been taken on his many adventures in Montana.
John is a licensed real estate broker in Montana and Virginia. He is also licensed in private security in Montana, Virginia and Utah, and works as a firearms instructor and security professional with TACTIC, a training and security company located in Four Corners, Montana, as well as security firms across the United States.
His professional objective is to establish 1889 Brokers as a low volume brokerage and trusted advisor to buyers and sellers of real estate and going concern businesses.
